Free Beginning Tennis Program for 6th Graders
The Sixth-Grade Tennis Program teaches the fundamentals of tennis ground strokes, volleys, and sportsmanship to beginning players in the sixth grade at each of the seven Ann Arbor Public Schools that have sixth graders. The program is free to players, and AAACTA provides balls and rackets (or players may use their own rackets). The program uses adult volunteers and high school tennis players to teach the six 1.25-hour sessions at each school.
Tennis provides numerous benefits beyond good health and activity. Kids learn teamwork, communication, balance, agility, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving and self-reliance, all while having fun and making friends. Midwest Youth Team Tennis uses modified tennis balls and USTA curricula so youth players will achieve greater physical activity and feel successful at tennis right from the start.
AAACTA's Sixth-Grade Tennis Program began in 2001!
